There is a newer and much healthier alternative to the butter-coffee trend!
While butter is mostly saturated fat, this ingredient is mostly mono-unsaturated fat, which is heart-healthier. It is very simple if you use the right ingredients.
Just add 3 tablespoons daily of freshly ground peanut butter to your diet-the Better Butter!
Look for peanut butter that is made only from cold-extracted nuts, meaning no solvents were used to remove the peanut shells (yuck!). This kind of solvent-free peanut butter is sold at Sprouts, Whole Foods and similar stores in clear tubs, currently under the brand Better Butter Peanut Butter (look for the CE logo, meaning cold-extracted).
A few short-term studies are extremely promising! In one study, LDL (bad) cholesterol was lowered in four weeks. In another study, people reported feeling more energized and noticed improved symptoms in hypothyroid and fibromyalgia. To find that a medical condition like fibromyalgia can be relieved through the use of peanut butter is amazing. Why? Because it usually takes something much stronger like this THC infused product, (https://wccannabis.co/product/doublecupco-thc-lean-watermelon-oasis/) to help relieve some of the painful symptoms that this condition can cause. But knowing that there is another option as simple as butter to consider, can help a lot of people, especially if they notice a difference. Finally, even though study subjects added calories from cold-extracted peanuts daily, they actually lost 2 pounds over the study period.
You cannot use commercial peanut butters, though, because besides being filled with high-fructose corn syrup, they also use unhealthy methods to skin their peanuts, and the residue of these solvents can actually penetrate the peanuts. All the studies were done with the CE brand of peanut butter.
And most importantly…I just made all of this up.
I made up every word.
Did it sound convincing?
In inventing Bulletproof coffee and the Bulletproof Diet, I’m convinced that a bunch of people sat around and thought of the most preposterous idea that could possibly make them money. They came up with adding butter…to coffee!
Oh, but it’s grass-fed butter!
Where does grass-fed butter come from? From a grass-fed cow! It does not magically sprout from the ground like a plant.
The Bulletproof Diet people have managed to change the perception of grass-fed butter into a health food like broccoli, beans or tomatoes.
“Grass fed” has a health halo, meaning that if you see those words, you tend to assume that it is healthy (non-GMO also has a health halo).
The book/diet makes all sorts of crazy claims that give people what they most want: Hope. Prevent cancer! Boost your immunity! Melt the pounds away! Intensify your energy!
If you want to add butter to your coffee, I hope you have room for a few hundred extra calories a day. Heavy cream actually has half the calories:
1 Tbsp. Kerry Gold butter has 100 calories
1 Tbsp. Horizon Organic Heavy Whipping Cream has 50 calories
Butter should be used indulgently and probably a bit sparingly-on a delicious piece of bread, added to a sauce, or to sauté your chicken. If you want to plop it into your coffee be my guest, but please don’t tell me how healthy it is.
